Renting a Storage Unit

November 9, 2010 By James T Roll

Q: I have just rented a storage unit in preparation for putting my house on the market.  Are our possessions covered under our homeowners’ policy while in storage?

A: While moving, they would have up to 100% of their current Coverage C (Personal Property/Contents) at both locations under an HO-3 policy form.  Some companies will limit this to 30 days during a move.  But anything in the storage unit has the Coverage C limits.

Please refer to your specific policy for terms & conditions.

Do you have personal property/contents at a storage unit?
