With this new information, we strongly recommend that you purchase surge protectors for all of your major appliances, televisions, and other electronic devices. Depending on your individual needs, there are several types of surge protection devices.

Small basic unit that usually plugs into one outlet and has one to three places to plug in your device.

Medium unit that usually plugs into two outlets and will have up to six places to plug in your device.

Power Strip that usually has eight to ten places to plug in your devices, spot for telephone protection, along with cable protection.
Not only will you protect your devices, but you will minimize your potential for loss. This can save you money and if your company covers power surges, it will save your company money, which can keep your insurance premium cost down.
Regarding this article about power surges and protecting appliances: Stoves, furnaces, dryers and other 220 volt appliances are electronic. However, they don't plug into a power surge strip. I'm installing a whole house surge protector in the breaker box as part of a kitchen remodel. The unit our electrician recommended costs $80. Googling "Power Surge", I found articles saying only homes with this type of protection escaped heavy damage or fire. Apparently, normal breakers alone don't protect homes from these surges.
