We here at GoVaughn.com Insurance see lots of deer claims starting now. They can really cause some damage to your vehicles.
Remember that deer claims fall under comprehensive coverage (sometimes referred to as “other than collision coverage”) which is optional coverage that is part of physical damage to your covered auto. If you don’t hit the deer but run off the road to miss the deer, those claims fall under collision coverage which is also optional coverage that is part of physical damage to your covered auto.
Your deductibles for comprehensive and collision may be different, so depending on if you hit the deer or not, may affect how much out of pocket expense you have. Also if you don’t hit the deer, but swerve to miss it and damage your auto, some companies will charge you for an at fault accident since it is paid out under the collision portion of your policy which can increase your premium.
Let us know if you have some questions about auto accidents involving deer.
