Bob, Please show us where you found this information. How is putting a new roof on an entire home put a policyholder back to pre-loss condition. Arguably, that would put them better than they were at the time of loss. We have had this discussion with various claims people from multiple companies and we know how they are handling claims for the companies that we represent. Now there may be other companies that handle claims totally different and that is why we stated “however we must note that it is up to your insurance company and their procedures to determine how a claim will be paid.” Thank you for reading our blog and posting a comment.

Not entirely accurate, Insurance has to indemnify a homeowner. Replacing a number of tabs or a slope of a roof may arguably provide similar function, but the homeowner is not brought back to pre loss condition if the shingles do not match because of cosmetic and economic factors. There is generally no language in the policy that says “line of site” so only matching a roof on one side is irrelevant and no different than the problem of replacing missing shingles with tabs that do not match the existing roof.
